East Asian Society of Philosophical Practice (EASPP)

Chapter 1: General Provisions
Article 1: Name
The society shall be known as the East Asian Society of Philosophical Practice (EASPP).
Article 2: Nature
The EASPP is a non-profit organization comprising researchers, practitioners, counselors, and enthusiasts dedicated to the advancement of philosophical practice.
Article 3: Purpose
The EASPP aims to integrate philosophy into daily life to enhance the quality of life and well-being, while also fostering research, professional development, dissemination, and application of philosophical practices throughout East Asia and beyond.
Article 4: Activities
To achieve its purpose, the EASPP will engage in the following activities:

Academic Conferences and Seminars: Organize and hold conferences and seminars on philosophical practice.

Workshops: Conduct workshops for philosophical practitioners to enhance knowledge, method, and skills.

Publications: Publish a journal to disseminate research and insights on philosophical practice.

Collaboration: Exchange knowledge and collaborate with related research organizations.
-
Other Activities: Engage in additional activities that align with the society's purpose.
Article 5: Headquarters
The headquarters of the EASPP shall be located at Dongguk University in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
Chapter 2: Primary Tasks
Article 6: Main Activities
The EASPP engages in an array of academic and philosophical pursuits, such as, but not limited to:

Conferences, seminars, and workshops.

Philosophical exercise, counseling, and therapy.

Philosophical consultancy and coaching.
-
Meditation and yoga practices.
Article 7: Annual Conferences
The EASPP shall organize annual conferences on philosophical practice in East Asia. The International Conference on Humanities Therapy in Technosociety (ICHTT) will be a regular conference, with its venue rotating among China, Korea, Japan, and other East Asian locations.
Article 8: Workshops
The EASPP will conduct regular workshops aimed at:

Training philosophical practitioners and counselors.

Fostering the development of future academic leaders in the field.
Article 9: Journal Publication
The EASPP shall publish a journal to facilitate academic discussion and promote the study of philosophical practice and counseling within the East Asian region and beyond.
Chapter 3: Membership
Article 10: Eligibility for Membership
Individuals and organizations involved in or enthusiastic about philosophical practice may apply for membership in the EASPP, provided they accept and adhere to the society's constitution.
Article 11: Application and Admission
Initial members consist of the founding members. New applicants must be recommended by an existing member.
Article 12: Membership Rights
Members are entitled to the following rights:

Members have the right to vote, be elected, and engage in decision-making processes.

Members can discuss, suggest, and oversee the society’s activities.

Members have priority to participate in the society’s various events.
-
Membership is voluntary, and members can withdraw at any time.
Article 13: Membership Obligations
Members are obligated to:

Adhere to the society’s constitution.
-
Engage actively in society’s activities and fulfill assigned tasks.
-
Foster unity, contribute to the society’s development, and maintain communication among members.

Participate actively in the research, promotion, and application of philosophical practice.
-
Safeguard the society’s interests and refrain from using membership for personal gain.
-
Pay the required membership fees.
Article 14: Maintenance of Membership

Members must complete the registration procedures and be recorded with the secretariat.

To resign from the society, members must submit a written notice.
-
Members who seriously violate the constitution may be expelled following a vote by the council.
-
Members must promptly notify the society of any changes in their employment or affiliation to maintain communication.
Chapter 4: Organizational Structure
Article 15: Organizational Bodies
The EASPP shall be composed of the following organizational bodies:

General Assembly.
-
Council.
-
Executive Board.
-
Advisory Committee.
Article 16: The General Assembly
The General Assembly, comprising all society members, is responsible for:

Formulating and amending the society’s constitution.
-
Electing and removing council members.
-
Reviewing the council’s work and financial reports.
-
Deciding on other major issues.
Article 17: Meetings of the General Assembly

The General Assembly shall convene biannually.
-
The chairmanship of the General Assembly shall alternate between the two Presidents.
-
Decisions are made by a majority vote of the members present.
Article 18: The Council

The Council shall consist of up to 15 representatives from East Asian countries or regions.

Council members serve a four-year term and may be re-elected for one additional term.
-
The Council shall elect two Presidents and 2-4 Vice Presidents.
-
Council decisions require a simple majority vote of the Executive Board members present.

The Council shall convene annually.
Article 19: Responsibilities of the Council
The Council is responsible for:

Planning projects to fulfill the society’s objectives.
-
Managing membership matters.
-
Organizing academic events.
-
Overseeing the publication of academic journals.
-
Addressing other necessary matters.
Article 20: The Executive Board

The Executive Board consists of the Presidents, Vice Presidents, and General Affairs Directors.
-
Regular meetings of the Executive Board shall be held, which may be conducted online.
Article 21: Presidents and Vice Presidents

The Presidents represent the society and oversee its affairs.
-
The Vice Presidents assist the Presidents.
-
The Presidents and Vice Presidents serve four-year terms, with a maximum of two consecutive terms.
Article 22: General Affairs Directors

The Presidents appoint the General Affairs Directors.
-
General Affairs Directors serve a four-year term.
-
General Affairs Directors are responsible for the overall management of the society.
Article 23: Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee consists of senior philosophers or philosophical practitioners.

Members are appointed by the Presidents upon the Council's recommendation.
-
The Advisory Committee may include experts from outside East Asia.
Chapter 5: Finance
Article 24: Funding Sources
The EASPP’s funding sources include:

Membership fees.
-
Donations.
-
Income from activities organized by the society.
-
Sponsorship from co-organizers of academic activities.
-
Other legitimate income.
Article 25: Membership Fees
Membership fees are collected based on terms agreed upon by the General Assembly and must be approved before being charged.
Article 26: Use of Funds

The society’s funds are used within the scope defined by this constitution and for the development of the society’s activities.

Primary expenditures include organizing events and daily management.
-
The General Affairs Directors are responsible for financial management.
Chapter 6: Supplementary Provisions
Article 27: Amendments
Amendments to this constitution must be approved by the Council and subsequently ratified by the General Assembly.
Article 28: Dissolution
If the society achieves its purpose, decides to dissolve, or needs to deregister for other reasons, the Council must propose termination. This must be approved by the General Assembly and reported to the relevant authorities in the host country.
Article 29: Interpretation
The EASPP retains the right to interpret the provisions of this constitution.
Article 30: Effective Date
The by-laws shall take effect as of August 1, 2024.
