Presidential Address

Presidents’ Welcome

Welcome to the East Asian Society of Philosophical Practice (EASPP) website!

It is with immense pleasure and a deep sense of purpose that we, the founding presidents of the EASPP, extend this greeting to you as the founding presidents of the EASPP. Our society was established with a clear vision: to create a vibrant and collaborative platform for the advancement of philosophical practice within the East Asian region.

For too long, the rich and diverse landscape of philosophical inquiry and its practical applications across East Asia has lacked a dedicated, unified forum for exchange and development. The EASPP aims to bridge this gap, recognizing the unique contributions and perspectives that researchers and practitioners in our region bring to the global field of philosophical practice. Our primary goal is to foster a dynamic environment where ideas can be shared, methodologies refined, and the profound impact of philosophical practice on individuals and communities amplified.

Looking ahead, the EASPP has set ambitious objectives. We are committed to organizing regular academic conferences that will bring together leading scholars and practitioners to present their latest research, engage in stimulating discussions, and explore innovative approaches to philosophical practice. These conferences will serve as crucial opportunities for intellectual growth and the dissemination of knowledge. In addition, we will host training workshops and seminars designed to enhance the skills and competencies of aspiring and experienced philosophical practitioners alike. These practical sessions will cover a wide range of topics, from philosophical counseling techniques to Socratic dialogue facilitation, ensuring that our members have access to high-quality professional development.

A cornerstone of our efforts will be the publication of our own journal, dedicated to showcasing cutting-edge research and reflections on philosophical practice in East Asia. This journal will provide a vital outlet for scholarly contributions and help to establish a distinctive voice for our region in the international philosophical community.

We will invite esteemed researchers of philosophical practice and philosophical practitioners out of the region to join us as special members or advisors, jointly promoting the global development of philosophical practice.

Above all, the EASPP is dedicated to fostering active exchange and collaboration among philosophical practice researchers and activists throughout East Asia. We believe that by connecting individuals and institutions, we can collectively advance the field, share best practices, and address the unique challenges and opportunities that arise within our diverse cultural contexts. We invite you to join us in this exciting endeavor and look forward to building a strong, supportive, and intellectually stimulating community together.

Thank you for your interest in the East Asian Society of Philosophical Practice.

Sincerely,

Young E. Rhee, Professor of Dongguk University

Tianqun Pan, Professor of Nanjing University
